Not long now until we leave for Zambia (Sunday 12th), we have been sent our itinerary for the week - attached, get the feeling that sleep maybe a premium judging by the start times for some of the days. Here is what is proposed for the time we are away.

Full day | ‘A day in the life of’ – in Moomba ward Rural community – pre intervention WIT group allocated 06 families to spend the whole day with WIT goes and collects the morning water first thing, with the women/children of each household. The water source in this village is a stream which is used for both domestic usage and animal watering. The stream is usually dry in dry season and communities opt to dig holes during the hard times. Households are within walking distance to each other WIT group to help with household activities |

Rural community – post intervention Chiyoobola school Mavwali village WIT will spend the whole day in Chipembele ward Chipembele ward, the project was implemented in partnership with Monze District Council (MDC) and phased out in 2008. At the point of phasing the ward had attained 100% toilet coverage at household level. WIT will have an opportunity to visit WIT will also visit one village called Mavwali which at the point of phasing out had benefited from a water point and all households had put up toilets and were in use. The WIT will hear and see how the community has been managing the facilities. | |

Afternoon | Silimi – rural, early intervention Meet villagers Assist with household latrine construction Silimi in Hatontola ward. This village has attained a 70% sanitation coverage with construction of household sanitation at different levels. WAZ, hope that the WIT will join in the construction of the latrines. The implementing partner is DAPP. |

Chisekesi – urban, post intervention See how a water kiosk and solar water tanks operate Meet partners and users Chisekesi project was the first Peri Urban work to be carried out by the programme through our implementing partner’s water utility and the LA. It is from this project that other peri urban works were initiated. The team will see the solar powered water supply and how it is performing. The community was once supported by WAZ through SAWAHZA on sanitation before the solar powered water supply. Before then the source of water supply was from contaminated unprotected shallow wells within the community | |
